Stop Trickling. Start Charging Properly
If you’ve just bought an EV, or you’re about to, you’ve probably noticed the portable charger that comes in the boot isn’t going to cut it long term. Plugging into a standard 10-amp powerpoint gives you roughly 10 – 15 kilometres of range per hour of charging. For most North Shore commuters, that means leaving your car plugged in all night and still not getting a full charge.
A Level 2 home charger changes that completely. You’ll get a full overnight charge from a wall-mounted unit on a dedicated circuit, typically 7 – 22kW depending on your home’s electrical setup. That’s 40 – 120 km of range per hour instead of 10.
The installation involves running a new dedicated circuit from your switchboard to your garage or carport, mounting the charger, and commissioning it. Most North Shore homes with a modern switchboard and a short cable run can be done in half a day. Older homes with ceramic fuse boards may need a switchboard upgrade first, we’ll tell you upfront during the quote, not after we’ve started.
Whether it’s a Tesla Wall Connector in a Mosman townhouse garage or a Zappi in a Dee Why carport with solar integration, our process is the same: assess, quote a fixed price, install, test, clean up.

EV Charger Installation FAQ
How long does an EV charger installation take?
Most standard installations are completed in 3–5 hours. If your switchboard needs upgrading or the cable run is particularly long, it may take a full day. We’ll give you a clear timeframe when we quote.
Can I install an EV charger myself?
No. Australian electrical regulations require all fixed electrical installations to be completed by a licensed electrician. DIY installation is illegal, dangerous, and will void your insurance and charger warranty.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger?
No. Most modern North Shore homes built or renovated in the last 15–20 years have sufficient switchboard capacity. Older homes with ceramic fuses or limited capacity may need an upgrade. James or Mitch will assess this during the quoting visit and include it in your fixed price if needed, no surprise add-ons later.
Can you install an EV charger in an apartment or townhouse?
Yes, but there’s a little more involved. You’ll typically need body corporate approval, and the installation may require longer cable runs from your meter board. We’ve done apartment installs across the North Shore and can advise on what’s needed for your specific building.
